Artificial intelligence is the most prominent feature in the iPad mini 2024 update list

Apple has unveiled a new, very small iPad mini that is lighter than the iPad Air and slightly larger than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, as part of a full suite of hardware updates this fall.

According to Phone Arena , the upgrade appears to be for one thing and one thing only: giving the iPad mini a more powerful Apple A17 Pro processor (same as the iPhone 15 Pro), thus making the small tablet compatible with new and upcoming Apple AI features.

Also, because the device is so small, it uses an “all-screen” design, and Apple has been very limited in how it places and uses the LCD player (controller), and swiping up and down on the iPad mini temporarily “squishes” the image, making it look a bit wobbly.

It would have been greatly appreciated if the iPad mini (2024) could support Stage Manager when connected to an external monitor, as it currently does, connecting it to a large monitor gives you a screen mirror of whatever is on the iPad.

The iPad mini 2024 also features a new version of the Calculator app, which interacts with handwritten notes and supports the Apple Pencil and Pencil Pro, making it suitable for creatives or those who prefer handwriting.

In terms of the camera, the device has a 12-megapixel wide-angle rear camera, which supports Smart HDR 4 technology to improve the lighting balance in photos. The device continues to rely on the Touch ID sensor built into the power button, instead of the Face ID technology available in the iPad Pro model.

The new device will feature support for writing tools and a completely new Siri experience. Apple Intelligence technology will also enable the creation of images using the Image Playground feature and integration with technologies such as ChatGPT, but these features are still under development.

This comes as a surprise in late 2024, as the iPad Air and iPad Pro can give you a desktop environment, perhaps not as convenient as working on a laptop or PC, but it can help you in times of stress.
